SBA x CAREA Housing Policy & Market Opportunities Forum

The Small Builders Association (SBA), in partnership with the Chinese American Real Estate Association (CAREA), hosted the Housing Policy & Market Opportunities Forum to bring together policymakers, builders, developers, housing professionals, lenders, and industry leaders for a meaningful discussion on the future of housing in California.


As a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the small builder community, SBA believes that addressing housing challenges requires collaboration across the public and private sectors. This forum created an opportunity for industry professionals and decision-makers to share perspectives, discuss barriers to housing production, and explore practical solutions that can help deliver more housing throughout our communities.


The event featured remarks from California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens, Councilmember Murali Srinivasan, and Mayor Larry Klein, who shared insights on housing policy, economic development, and the importance of partnership in addressing California's housing needs.


Attendees also participated in two panel discussions focused on development and entitlements, as well as finance and industry perspectives. Moderated by Jason Zhongshu Wang, Vice President of CAREA, and Tom Huong Tran, President of SBA, the panels brought together experienced professionals from across the housing industry to discuss project approvals, development challenges, financing, market conditions, and opportunities to support housing production.


Throughout the forum, one message remained clear: solving California's housing challenges requires ongoing collaboration, open dialogue, and strong partnerships among policymakers, builders, developers, lenders, and housing professionals.


This event reflects SBA's ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for education, networking, advocacy, and industry engagement that strengthen the small builder community and support responsible housing development throughout the Bay Area and beyond.
